A brief history of Eastern Idaho Spine, Sports and Rehab Center, 2005-2017
We started out in 2008 as Eastern Idaho Spine Center. Dr. Shane Mangrum, a skilled and exceptional physiatrist, moved to Idaho Falls in 2005 and created his own business, Western Rehabilitation. Due to his passion for exceptional medical care, he quickly grew his practice and recruited Dr. Sarah Vlach to join him and they co-founded Eastern Idaho Spine Center. In its early years, the practice focused mostly on back and neck pain, although as physiatrists we treat all aspects of the musculoskeletal system.
Our practice thrived and grew, adding in such innovative procedures as acupuncture, PRP and prolotherapy in a constant effort to provide treatment options for patients who did not get better with more traditional methods of treating pain due to musculoskeletal and sports injuries.
Dr. Mangrum left eastern Idaho in 2014 to pursue an exciting opportunity in Atlanta. His legacy is enormous and patients in our practice mourned his departure. However, with change comes opportunity and we chose to partner with Mountain View Hospital in 2015 to serve a greater breadth of patients. We also chose to re-name our practice as “Eastern Idaho Spine, Sports and Rehab Center”. What’s in a name? A lot, it turns out. We do so much more than back and neck pain (although we continue to provide excellent care for those conditions as well). We aim to encompass the whole spectrum of physiatry, treating patients with musculoskeletal and sports injuries, but also helping rehabilitate patients with strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputees and spasticity.
We are also advancing the field of regenerative medicine in southeastern Idaho and opened our Center for Regenerative Medicine in 2017 to include advanced procedures such as PRP and stem cell injections. Our goal is to provide exceptional, cutting-edge procedures in this exciting area of medicine to help patients avoid surgeries of the musculoskeletal system and spine.
We continue to grow and as of this writing (spring, 2017) have 3 physicians and 3 mid-level providers with offices in Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Blackfoot, with plans for expanding both our physicians and locations of practice. We aim to keep growing and building in an effort to help as many patients as possible.
We believe in the body’s innate capacity for healing and regeneration. We believe in promoting health and wellness throughout your lifespan.
From all the staff at Eastern Idaho Spine, Sports and Rehab, thank you for letting us help you towards your best health.
